Flashback!

I just received these photos from an old friend. The top photo is of me (on the left) and the friend who sent the photos - Teresa (on the right). In the bottom photo Teresa and are in the very front (she in on far left ... I'm on far right).

These photos are from my first backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail - 1977 - and the bottom shot is at our starting point - Springer Mountain. My former husband and I were counselors/leaders on the trip - and I was 27 years old. Teresa was a Junior in High School - and 17 years old. The group is our churches Senior High Youth Group. It was an amazing trip ... and one that I will never forget!

I just found out that that these 'kids' are planning a Reunion in August - of all of 'the old gang' ... and I'm going to be helping with the planning. Teresa, Bill (second from the left on back row) and Phil (on the back row - in the middle - right in between the two guys with red hats) - are the three who came up with the idea - and have started the ball rolling. Bill is in N.Y. - so it's hard for him to help out much - so I've offered to help out too. It should be lots of fun ... and many memories! Can't wait!

And ... it was fun seeing these photos ... from so many years ago. : )

Do you have any special Reunions coming up? Or that you have been to over the past years? Feel free to share your 'moments' with us ... as we celebrate those 'days of our lives'.

The most recent I went to was my high school reunion held approx. 2 years ago. I don't have any pics to share but we had fun that night :)

I know you'll have fun plannning and participating in your upcoming reunion.

Happy trails,
Enid

Well, you know I went to the Senior Bachelor reunion in Feb. with Suzanne, Willy, Ada, Nancy, Linda, et al. We had a blast - no thanks to "you know who" who just used it as a recruiting weekend for those naive gullible ones with money and no brains. He wants women to pay him to take them around Italy (like I did last fall). As I told everyone, it WAS fun, but I don't need him to do it again. Did you see any of the photos? I think I posted some on my blog when I got back. Check my archives for Feb or Mar of 07.

Hi Enid and Leslie. Thanks for posting. And yes, Enid, I think it will be fun.

The girl in the photo (or - I guess I should say 'woman' - as she is 47 and has three grown children) - she called me this week and we talked for hours - just like it was yesterday that we last saw each other ... instead of well over 20 years ago.

It was a great conversation ... and she invited us over for a planning session tomorrow night - so I'm really looking forward to that. And just to see three of our old group again.

Enid - glad you had fun at your reunion. I went to my 20 year High School Reunion - but that was ages ago.

Ah yes, Leslie. I do remember those photos. I actually envied you going on that trip - even though I understand what you mean. And I've struggled a bit because I've wanted to do something to similar to what he does ... but it is difficult to know where the line is between what is appropriate and fair value ... and what is just using or taking advantage. We had big discussions about that with our Mexico trip - because people have certain expectations when they are paying ... and it is (in my opinion) a huge responsibility. I've pretty much decided that when I do set up another trip - that I will most likely partner with an established group that can offer substantial discounts because of their high volume use - because that will be a benefit to the travelers ... and make it more worthwhile. Sometimes you lose a little control that way - but the price reductions can make up for that.

At any rate, if you had a great time on the trip - that is what is important. And ... I know that reunion was fun. I actually was thinking (and smiling to myself) that we could all do another reunion - by ourselves. : ) Of course - for me - it will have to be a while off ... because I'm leaving next week for Georgia - to see my parents (with my youngest and his wife) ... then I come back and go right to Saddlebrook Resort - for our company 'University' that I produce every year. Then I hope to be selling my home and moving soon after that. And ... with any luck at all ... starting a new job in the first part of August. So ... fingers crossed!

Thanks again - for stopping by. It's always good to 'see' you ... and I'm so glad that there are at least a few of us who still keep in touch. But don't you miss those days when there was so much 'bantering' back and forth? I was telling someone yesterday that I remember staying up until the wee hours of the morning reading posts and responding ... and I couldn't wait to get home from work at night - to see what had happened during the day. Those were fun times.

I have thought about this ... can we stir that kind of excitement up again ... without a man being involved? It seems like once the 'contest' was over ... most everyone just 'went away' ... and yet so many agreed that the relationships were built among the women ... not because of the SB cause. So ... if that is true ... where did everyone go? Because 'the boy' went away ... the relationships fade away? Without the carrot being dangled before us ... there is no interest? I don't know the answers ... I just think about that sometimes. Because I miss all of it sometimes. Even the arguing and the cat fights (ha ha). Well ... maybe not so much ... but at least it was entertaining at times. And inspirational at others. And even educational sometimes. Good times. : )

Well ... I finally finished updating my resume early this morning ... and have to send it out tonight. It's hard updating after seven years at one place. But - it's finally 'done'! One of my friends from worked looked at it today - to give me his 'stamp of approval' on the formatting. He's been urging me to get it out ... and he wants to follow me to the same place. One of our team already left - and loves it ... and is really pushing for them to hire me too. And the other guy. We would make a great team ... and I would love it. So ... we shall see.

Ya'll have a good one!

Hi Brenda,
I am also still reading along. I am on another road trip. I had to quit my job to take this one. So me.
I left Florida almost 2 weeks ago. I have been to D.C., NJ, the Cape to see Grams, and am back on the Jersey Shore for the 4th of July. Now I have not been here for the 4th in over 20 years.
My sister lives on the same street we grew up on. The person who lives in the house now let us walk thru last night. It has been totally renovated, etc. Wow. My sister and I just let the memories fly. The new people couldn't believe my grandfather built it.
And the old safe is still in the basement. It is so heavy and old. I am not surprised it's still there. My sister and I just laughed.
I hope everyone is having a great summer. I will be on the road for another 2 weeks.

Hi Brenda, what's new? Come on over to my blog space and see why I've tagged you. I'm having a lot of fun blogging with lots of new and interesting people from all over the world. Anyway, you're it!

hi brenda, it was really good hearing from you today thru the email.

i think with some of us, it wasn't only about the other person, and after everything was over with, we all developed our own blogsites, which some of us have kept up, and we visit each other blogs rather than just using one specific blog like we used to.

thru our own blogs, as leslie pointed out, we've met so many new people from all over different parts of the world, and it's fun to visit their blogs and have them visit ours.

there are still some ladies i've never met, and it would be nice to plan a trip where we could all come together for some fun. i've never been interested in the meetings with that "other" person, but i'd love getting together with some of us originals and hanging out a bit.

i really hope things work out like you want them to for your next job.

how far do you live from carol aka beachgirl?

Hey Everyone! Sorry that I haven't been writing recently. Just wanted to come on tonight - after writing to Enid - to wish her well, as Hurricane Dean approaches. I hope they don't get hit too badly!

The company that I work for is in-house in five Hotels in Cancun/Playa area - so we are concerned for all of them as well.

Have had lots of 'stuff' going on ...and will try to write more later.

Have a good one!

Brenda

Don't know if anyone remembers me since I haven't blogged for eons. But I'm sure some of you remember Dr.Oma (Ellen)who blogged much more frequently than I. And I think she kept in touch via e-mail with a few of the other original SB bloggers. So I wanted to get this sad news out to any of you who might have been keeping in touch with her. Ellen passed away yesterday morning after suffering from a burst aortic artery about 3 weeks ago. Itchyfeet (remember her?)and I are devastated to have lost our good friend; the three of us had kept in close touch with each other for such a long time, and now Ellen is gone.
