Remembering our Heroes ...

MEMORIAL DAY ... May 28, 2007

On this day, I would like to honor Jeffrey Wershow - who was killed in Iraq on July 6, 2003, while serving with my son, Christopher - in the Florida Army National Guard - 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment, Orlando, Fla. He was 22 years old - the same age as my son, at the time. My son is now 26.

My son was one of the soldiers who heard the call for help, and arrived within minutes - to the horrible scene. He was part of the team who was sent to look for the shooter - who was never apprehended.

Here is an article about what happened to Jeffrey: http://www.soflec.org/Spc.%20Jeffrey%20M.%20Wershow.htm
This is Jeffrey's Memorial Service held in Iraq. Those are his boots, helmet, photo and dog tags. There was a little video put together by his fellow soldiers - to 'Amazing Grace' - and it had still photos from the service. It was heartbreaking to watch ... as the soldiers came - one by one - to pay their respects ... and weep for the loss of their friend.
The photo to the left is Jeffrey Wershow’s Flag - that was placed on the berm at the border from Jordan into Iraq – to let the world know that it was “the Florida boys” that paved the way for Special Forces to enter into Iraq (before the war 'officially' began). This flag was presented to Charlie Company, upon their return from Iraq (which is when this photo was taken). The flag now resides in the Florida National Guard Museum in St. Augustine. It has great meaning to all of Charlie Company.

May God Bless all of our Troops ... those who are serving now ... and those who served in the past. They will always hold the scars of war ... and the losses of their fellow soldiers in their hearts.

May God be with all of the families and friends - of those who were lost in military service.

And may there - some day -
be Peace on Earth!

On this Memorial Day ... let us remember those who have fought for our freedom. Not just those of us who live in the U.S. - but others from other countries as well.

Peace,

Brenda

P.S. I'm still keeping the last Blog active - in case people would like to continue discussing topics related to dating ... guys ... being single ... etc.

Even though it's not Memorial Day here in Canada, we Canadians think of the Canadian soldiers who've lost their lives in this current war. And actually, there have been more Canadian soldiers killed per capita than even in the USA. So, please American friends, do remember them on this day, too. Thanks and God bless.

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for the post. And ... yes ... as I mentioned - not just those who live in the U.S. should be remembered. And not just this war ... All Wars. Every life is of value ... not matter where they are from ... or who they served for. My father, older brother and two nephews are Veterans ... so I include them as well - though only my father and son fought in battle. It would be nice if we didn't have wars ... so we didn't need to have Memorial Days. : )

God Bless All who served ... or are serving.

Peace,

Brenda

Today, May 31/07 here is one of the headlines on the internet: Five Americans along with a Canadian and a British soldier died when a Chinook helicopter was shot down Wednesday evening in Afghanistan's most volatile province. And on it goes...for how much longer?

Amen to that prayer.

Brenda, I added your blog link on my blogsite today. Just doing some changes in the templates and adding in links, etc.

Have a good weekend,
Enid
